The Joint Commission recently released "Advancing Effective Communication, Cultural Competence, and Patient- and Family-Centered Care: A Roadmap for Hospitals", which details their new and revised standards for Patient-Centered Communication. Beginning January 2011, Joint Commission surveyors will evaluate hospitals’ compliance with the Patient-Centered Communication, but findings will affect the accreditation decision no earlier than January 2012.
